Sugarloaf East Vineyard is situated in southern Napa Valley and has rocky, well-drained soils. Elevation is between 200 and 400 feet and the top soil is volcanic and minimal. Southwest facing and planted to Bordeaux varieties. Our wine was made from saignee of Merlot.
Brilliant, almost phosphorescent medium red (a color halfway between rose and red wine – what the French call Clairet); strong aromas of wild cherries and pepper; cherries, tonic water and mineral on the Palate with mouth-cleansing acidity; bright, crisp finish. For drinking now and serve at red wine temperature – barely cool.
Brix at Harvest:
Saignee of Merlot that was placed in barrel and fermented below 70 degrees for over 100 days. Malolactic fermentation was stopped.
Aged 4 months in 9-10 year old French oak barrels
